Nature and sports in the Lower Rhine: Kevelaer Youth Hostel

Kevelaer Youth Hostel is always full of action: school classes, clubs and sports groups hurry around the hostel, meet each other and prepare for an eventful day in the Lower Rhine region. On our own small playing field with artificial turf, boys can compete with each other at a football match. In the evening, guests can enjoy the cosy atmosphere of a barbecue or tell stories around a campfire. The cosy hostel on the edge of the forest is characterized by a very relaxed, natural and warm atmosphere.

Kevelaer offers the perfect mix of sport, culture and nature. Idyllically situated in the Lower Rhine region, the many windmills give visitors some idea of how close it is to the Netherlands. Since the 17th century, pilgrims from around the world have been visiting the famous pilgrimage sites such as the Chapel of Grace, the Candle Chapel and the Basilica. Canoeing, cycling, hiking and walking - quiet woodland areas, the quietly rippling Niers and flat floodplains make you want to enjoy activities together in the fresh air. Sports enthusiasts who want to get to know the Lower Rhine landscape on the 2000 km of cycle paths will find that Kevelaer Youth Hostel is the ideal starting point for many varied cycling tours.

Nature is also the focus of many of the school trips offered by the hostel. Besides shared adventures in nature, history and culture are also recurring themes: one highlight is the guided tour in the Archaeological Park Xanten, which allows children and caregivers to travel back in time to see what urban life 2000 years ago was like. Agriculture is also an issue: are cows really purple like the Milka cow? How is milk made into cheese? It's not just city kids who learn surprising things!

Special features:
  • Living history in varied school trips
  • Canoe trek
